In the heart of the city, the Dresden Fire and Rescue Service was kept busy on the first day of a major event. The team recorded a total of 314 deployments in the past 24 hours, marking the highest number this year.

The day started with a dramatic incident around 23:17, when callers reported a person in the Elbe. However, the deployment was aborted during the approach as the person managed to save themselves and reach the shore.

The rescue helicopter Christoph 38 took off four times in the control center area. Among the 24 assistance operations carried out by the fire department were containing leaked operating materials, providing carrying assistance for the rescue service, and opening doors to provide medical care to helpless people in their homes.

Unfortunately, 12 individuals were transported to Dresden hospitals by ambulance on the day. Of these, six required intensive care transports, while 178 qualified for patient transports.

The source of a fire was quickly eliminated and the apartments ventilated, with no one injured. The range of interventions at the festival included circulatory problems, sprained joints, complaints after insect bites, allergic reactions, symptoms of alcohol poisoning, and treatment after a dispute involving pepper spray.

In two cases, smoke detectors prevented potential fires: neighbours alerted the fire department in time because burnt food caused smoke development. During the Canaletto City Festival, 37 patients were treated medically at the three accident assistance stations.

Despite high temperatures and an expected increase in circulatory problems, the number of interventions remained below the level of 2024. The professional and volunteer fire departments of Dresden responded to 43 deployments in the past 24 hours.
