The European Championship bears a resemblance to a preliminary friendly competition.
In the ongoing Euro Championship 2025, the German team is making a strong case for a perfect preliminary round. With a formidable performance against Finland on the horizon, they have already secured four wins in four games, most recently triumphing over Great Britain with a resounding score of 120:57.
The fourth quarter saw the German team reach the 100-point mark, a testament to their dominance on the court. Tristan da Silva, the team's top scorer, contributed an impressive 25 points to the victory. Five other players - Wagner, Schrรถder, Daniel Theis, and Oscar da Silva - also scored in double figures.
The game against Great Britain, however, seemed more like a training session than a competitive match, with less intensity and atmosphere compared to a European Championship game. Despite this, the victory was significant, especially for players who have yet to find their rhythm. Injured World Champion Moritz Wagner commented on the importance of such games.
The victory also surpassed the old record from 1951, making it Germany's most convincing win at an EM. The interim coach, Alan Ibrahimagic, led the team in the absence of Alex Mumbru, who was hospitalized and could not coach during the group phase.
The team around Schrรถder and Wagner is expected to be the clear favourite against Finland in their next game, scheduled for Wednesday. The match will determine the first place in Group B. Meanwhile, key players Johannes Voigtmann and Maodo Lo are taking a break from the tournament. Voigtmann travelled to Munich to treat his loaded knee and is expected back with the team in Finland on Tuesday. Lo, on the other hand, sat out the game against Great Britain due to knee pain during warm-up.
In their downtime, the team enjoyed a rest day, visiting a sauna and taking a walk in nature after the game against Lithuania. As the tournament progresses, the German team continues to impress, setting new records and demonstrating a strong determination to claim the top spot.
