The forthcoming HVV Switch app is set to propel the shift towards a mobile-based transportation system
Hamburg Introduces HVV Switch App as Digital Heart of Hamburg-Takt Project
The city of Hamburg is taking a significant step towards a more efficient and sustainable public transportation system with the introduction of the HVV Switch app. This digital heart of the Hamburg-Takt project aims to ensure that all citizens can reach a public transportation option within five minutes by 2030.
The HVV Switch app, currently available in a beta version, is a collaborative effort between Hamburg Hochbahn AG (Hochbahn) and the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV). The app combines HVV offers with the on-demand shuttle service Moia, with car-sharing provider Sixt Share set to follow by the end of 2020.
Robert Henrich, CEO of MOIA, believes their involvement in the app is a step towards a comprehensive and digitally available mobility offer within Hamburg. He explains that this integration creates further incentives for citizens to leave their own cars more often, contributing to a more sustainable city.
The app is planned to be integrated with all HVV public transport modes by the end of 2020 as part of the expansion of the existing HVV Custom App under the European Urban Initiative (EUI). Further integrations, such as StadtRad, Google Maps, and various car-sharing services, are planned for 2021.
Anjes Tjarks, Mobility Senator, aims to drive the mobility transition in Hamburg. He states that the goal is to make traffic more climate-friendly, sustainable, and city-compatible through digital solutions. For the use of car-sharing offers, a one-time driver's license validation via video call will be required in the app.
The Hamburg-Takt project, with the HVV Switch app at its core, is a significant step towards a more efficient and sustainable public transportation system in Hamburg. Citizens are encouraged to download the app and join in this transition towards a more environmentally friendly city.
