The iconic punk rock band, The Sex Pistols, undergo remastering by Rhino Records
In a nostalgic nod to punk rock history, Rhino High Fidelity has reissued the Sex Pistols' groundbreaking debut album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols. Originally released at the end of October 1977, the album continues to have a significant impact on punk music and popular culture, nearly five decades later.
Recorded over a six-month period in 1977 at Wessex Sound in London, the album was cut from original master tapes and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl at Optimal in Germany. The limited release is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies.
Producer Chris Thomas, who has worked with notable bands such as the Beatles, Procol Harum, Pink Floyd, and Roxy Music, worked on the album and has written new liner notes for the reissue. One unexpected moment during the recording process stood out to Thomas. Guitarist Steve Jones mirrored his guitar an octave lower for the bass part, resulting in a powerful and simple combination that was recorded in just a few hours.
The album includes the band's most famous songs, such as "Anarchy in the U.K.", "God Save the Queen", "Pretty Vacant", and "Holidays in the Sun". Despite being banned by major retailers and causing widespread controversy, the album debuted at #1 on the U.K. charts. In the U.S., it has sold over a million copies alone.
Never Mind the Bollocks ranks high among the greatest albums of all time in lists by Rolling Stone, NME, and Time. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and continues to be a defining force in punk music.
The Sex Pistols, who undertook their only US tour in January 1978 and dissolved at the Winterland concert in San Francisco on January 14, 1978, were at the forefront of the punk movement. The band's debut album remains a cultural lightning rod, with its raw energy and rebellious spirit resonating with listeners to this day.
The reissued album is available exclusively at Rhino.com and select Warner Music Group stores internationally. Fans of punk rock and music history alike will want to add this iconic album to their collection.
