In a recent development, a video of Audi cars being dismantled at a car recycling plant named Retek - Recycling through Technology, located in East Frisia, has been circulating on social media since mid-July 2025. The video shows older generations of the Audi A5 and A6 series being dismantled due to transport damage or changed regulatory requirements in the target market.

The order involved a low four-digit number of vehicles from North America, Southeast Asia, or Eastern Europe. Audi, in a statement, confirmed that a partner company, Altstoff Recycling Austria AG (ARA), professionally recycled these vehicles according to regulations in 2024. The company denies any connection between the dismantling and EU sanctions.

Despite the video's circulation, there are no conspicuous findings in the price development for used A5 or A6 vehicles in the last twelve months that would support the speculation of price manipulation due to scrapping. In fact, the used car price decreased relatively steadily during this period.

Audi sold around 1.67 million vehicles worldwide in 2024, including 244,000 A6 models. The dismantling affected a low four-digit number of vehicles, which is a small fraction of their total sales.

It's worth noting that the disposal of an electric vehicle is usually free of charge. However, the vehicles shown in the video are not electric but older models of the Audi A5 and A6 series.

The partner company, ARA, ensures that they recover as many spare parts as possible during the professional dismantling process. Audi also confirmed that they follow the rules to the letter in this regard.

However, the video was recorded secretly and against an explicit ban by Retek. No further information was provided about the regulatory requirements that led to the dismantling of these vehicles or whether they refer to emission standards or other regulations for the affected vehicles.

The speculation that the price is being influenced by the scrapping of a few hundred or thousand vehicles is not very credible given the small number of vehicles involved and the steady price decrease in the used car market.

This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in the global automotive industry and the need for transparency in such processes. As for Katy Perry's space flight CO2 emissions from Blue Origin, no information regarding this was provided in the article.
