The Parliament of Europe
The Heimat-Preis 2025 is now open for applications and nominations, running from June 1st to August 15th, 2025. This prestigious award, initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipalities, Building and Equal Opportunities of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, has been honoring outstanding community projects since 2019 in the city of Detmold.
Whether you're an individual or an organisation with a project that strengthens community spirit, preserves cultural heritage, promotes diversity, enhances public spaces, or pursues innovative approaches in areas such as digitization and sustainable mobility, the Heimat-Preis is eager to hear from you.
Applications can be submitted by post or email. For postal applications, send your submission to Nora Moos and Kathrin Prill at the Department for Press and Public Relations, Town Hall am Markt, Marktplatz 5, 32756 Detmold. Alternatively, email your application to ehrenamt@our website.
Nominations from third parties who wish to draw attention to outstanding engagement of others are also explicitly desired. If you know someone who deserves recognition for their civic engagement, don't hesitate to nominate them.
The internal administrative jury, consisting of representatives from politics, administration, media, and the mayor as an advisory member, will evaluate all submissions from mid-August. The award will be presented by the city portal council.
Projects honored with the Heimat-Preis in recent years include special efforts to preserve public parks, ideas workshops for social cohesion, sustainable thinking and action, and regular breakfast offers for single people. The Heimat-Preis has established itself as a fixed point for highlighting voluntary work.
The Heimat-Preis offers a prize money of up to 5,000 euros. This award aims to recognize civic engagement that strengthens the local community with passion and creativity.
