"The sibling Raaheeb, akin to Baaeed, has debuted successfully at Ascot, demonstrating an early promise of excellence"
Raaheeb Wins Charbonnel et Walker British EBF Maiden Stakes, El Vamos Impresses on Debut
In a thrilling race at Ascot, Raaheeb, a regally-bred two-year-old horse trained by Owen Burrows, claimed victory in the Charbonnel et Walker British EBF Maiden Stakes. The colt, who is a sibling to Baaeed, a horse that has won six consecutive Group 1 races, crossed the finish line a length and a quarter ahead of the competition.
Sheikha Hissa, who manages Shadwell's racing operation, was pleased with Raaheeb's debut race, calling it a great start. Angus Gold, Shadwell's racing manager, added that Raaheeb was ready for a run and always needed a bit of ground.
Meanwhile, another two-year-old making her racecourse debut at Ascot was El Vamos, a filly trained by George Boughey. El Vamos, a daughter of the first-season sire St Mark's Basilica, is owned by George Waud, a film producer who has been expanding his racing interests. Waud was thrilled with El Vamos' performance, stating that he was thrilled with her debut performance at Ascot.
El Vamos' half-sibling, Stop The Cavalry, is a Listed-placed horse, and the filly showed a striking turn of foot to win the Wesco Anixter EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes. Waud, who also recently acquired another St Mark's Basilica filly, mentioned that he was pleased to see El Vamos gallop past the finish line after the race.
Interestingly, Raaheeb and El Vamos share a connection with Baaeed, as the latter's sire and brother are both named Raaheeb. Hukum, Baaeed's other brother, won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot two years ago and is now a stallion residing in Japan.
The persons or institutions involved in the acquisition of the stallion St Mark's Basilica at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale include Al Shaqab and Amo Racing. Woodnook Farm, the breeder of El Vamos, has produced another promising racehorse in the form of the filly.
Raaheeb was sent off as the 7-4 favorite in the Charbonnel et Walker British EBF Maiden Stakes, and his trainer, Owen Burrows, mentioned that Raaheeb was more excited at the racecourse than at home. Angus Gold, Shadwell's racing manager, also noted that Raaheeb was a bit noisy when he first arrived on the track but settled down well.
El Vamos, on the other hand, was bought for 420,000gns by Sam Haggas of Hurworth Bloodstock. The filly made a successful racecourse debut at Ascot, and her future in racing looks promising. With these impressive performances, both Raaheeb and El Vamos have made a strong start to their racing careers.
