The world basketball title has been claimed by Germany!

In a thrilling finale, the German basketball team clinched the World Cup title in Manila, marking their first international championship in 28 years. The team, led by captain Dennis Schröder and young star Franz Wagner, defeated a tough Serbian squad 83:77 in the Mall of Asia Arena.

The victory came exactly eight years after Dirk Nowitzki's last international game, surpassing the success of the generation around the basketball legend. At halftime, both Schröder and Wagner had 14 points each, with Schröder's electrifying dunk just before the break sending the German bench into a frenzy.

Wagner, the driving force behind Germany's offensive strategy, scored 19 points in the final match. He set the tempo, driving aggressively to the basket, and even exchanged words with the referees. In response to the Serbian challenge, the German team made a strategic change, feeding the ball initially to Wagner.

Without NBA star Nikola Jokic, Serbia proved to be a formidable opponent. They played hard-nosed defense, referred to as "Pesic-Defense", and kept the lead seesawing in the first half with two put-back three-pointers. However, the German team's perfect tournament record of eight wins in eight games saw them through to the victory.

The Mall of Asia Arena in Manila had an electric atmosphere during the final match. The Serbian fans started chanting "Auf Wiedersehen" early in the game, but the German team held strong. The gold trophy, known as the Naismith Trophy, will belong to Germany for the next four years.

Coach Gordon Herbert addressed the German team, acknowledging the significance of the final match. The coach of the winning team is Álex Mumbrú, leading the team to their second international title, following the 1993 EuroBasket. The victory is a testament to the team's resilience, skill, and determination, and a proud moment for German basketball.
