In an unexpected turn of events, a group of four individuals were apprehended at Kaufland in Bad Salzungen on Friday at 11 a.m. The group, consisting of two men and two women, were found to be in possession of falsely obtained health cards and driver's licenses, leading to criminal investigations for theft and document forgery.

The stolen groceries, valued at 166 euros, were intended to be smuggled out of the store in two backpacks past the checkout area. However, the initial identification of the suspects proved challenging, as they only had health cards or driver's licenses on them, which were later discovered to be fake or obtained using false personal information.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the suspects were Georgian citizens. The criminal proceedings against them were initiated for both theft and forgery. The forgery charges stemmed from the fake documents they were found with, which had been used to conceal their true identities.

The incident marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat retail theft and document fraud in the region. As the investigation continues, authorities are working diligently to uncover any potential connections between these suspects and organised criminal networks.
