Wuppertal Pickpocket Arrested: Suspect Known to Police

A notorious pickpocket, a 48-year-old man with no fixed address, was apprehended early Saturday morning, February 8th, at 00:55, in Wuppertal's Old Town. The arrest was the result of a combined effort by local law enforcement and a vigilant witness.

The man, known to the police for alleged thefts, had been stealing mobile phones in Wuppertal over the past few weeks. A woman reported her phone stolen, providing a detailed description of the suspect. This description was broadcast to all officers on duty in the Old Town, leading to the identification of a matching suspect at Mother-Ey Square.

A patrol team spotted the man at the square and, upon further investigation, found three stolen mobile phones among the recovered items. Additionally, a high-quality leather case was discovered, which may have been used in the commission of the crimes.

In an attempt to dispose of incriminating evidence, the man threw several items into a nearby public restroom. However, these efforts were in vain, as all recovered phones were identified and returned to their owners.

It is worth noting that the 48-year-old detainee has a history of similar offenses. In fact, his arrest is connected to previous offenses, and a judge had issued a warrant for his arrest prior to his apprehension.

Investigations regarding the 48-year-old detainee's activities are ongoing. Unfortunately, three more people reported their phones stolen after the pickpocket's apprehension, suggesting that the man may have been operating in the area for some time.

The apprehension of the pickpocket serves as a reminder to always report stolen items to the police and to be vigilant in public places. The Wuppertal police department encourages anyone with information about this case or any other crime to come forward and assist in the ongoing efforts to keep the city safe.
