Thief apprehended in urban precinct by law enforcement.
In the heart of Düsseldorf's old town, the city's police force made an arrest during the lively Carnival celebrations. On Thursday, 28.02.2025, at 00:05, Düsseldorf Police apprehended two suspects, a 19-year-old Moroccan and a 21-year-old Algerian, in connection with pickpocketing incidents.
The arrest took place in the early hours of Friday morning. The suspects, known to police for similar offences, were observed by plainclothes officers from Düsseldorf's Central Police Station. The officers kept an eye on the pair as they wandered around midnight, showing interest in drunken visitors.
The pickpockets approached an intoxicated woman and her companion on the pedestrian crossing from Bolkerstraße towards Königsallee. One of the men bumped into the woman's companion and engaged him in conversation as a distraction, while the second suspect stole the woman's mobile phone from her jacket pocket.
The plainclothes officers intervened and arrested both suspects. The 21-year-old Algerian will be brought before an investigating judge today. The 19-year-old suspect's court appearance has yet to be scheduled.
The news was transmitted via news aktuell from Düsseldorf Police. However, the organization responsible for the arrest remains unspecified.
