Thriving Lioness, Diagnosed with Shell Shock, Marks a Year of Recovery After Rescue from Ukraine

In a heartwarming tale of survival and rehabilitation, a lioness named Yuna is living the life a lion should, according to The Big Cat Sanctuary's managing director, Cam Whitnall. Yuna, who was rescued from a small, bare concrete enclosure in Ukraine, is now thriving a year after being welcomed to her UK home.

The Big Cats in Crisis campaign, initiated as a response to Yuna's rescue story, played a crucial role in her journey. The campaign, spearheaded by The Big Cat Sanctuary, successfully raised £500,000 for the construction of a centre for the rescued big cats. As a result, four more lions were brought to Kent, UK from Ukraine.

Yuna, now full of personality, enjoys exploring her new surroundings alongside fellow rescue lion, Rori. The two lions live in enclosures next to each other at The Big Cat Sanctuary. Their bond is evident, with Yuna and Rori forming a romance that has added a new dimension to their lives.

Cam Whitnall, the managing director of The Big Cat Sanctuary, considers Yuna a symbol of hope that inspired the rescue of other lions. He highlights Yuna's resilience as a testament to her strength and determination. Upon evacuation, Yuna was unable to stand due to a severe concussion caused by shell shock. However, her spirit was unbroken, and she has since made a remarkable recovery.

Dr. Jane Foster, the Managing Director and Wildlife Expert of the big cat sanctuary, has been instrumental in Yuna's care and rehabilitation. Under her guidance, Yuna has transformed from a timid creature into a confident and vibrant lioness.

The Big Cat Sanctuary, located in the UK, is now the home for Yuna, Rori, and the other lions rescued from Ukraine. The sanctuary provides a safe and nurturing environment for these big cats, ensuring they live the best lives possible.

The success story of Yuna serves as a beacon of hope for other big cats in crisis. It is a testament to what can be achieved when people come together to make a difference. The Big Cats in Crisis campaign continues to strive for the welfare and conservation of big cats worldwide.
