Thriving masterpiece by Melanie Loureiro on display at KIT Düsseldorf (Artwork)
Discover the captivating world of Melanie Loureiro's art at the exhibition "Melanie Loureiro: The Connection of Creatures", running until June 9, 2023, at KIT (Art in the Tunnel), Mannesmannufer 1b.
The exhibition, showcasing the works of this talented artist who graduated from Düsseldorf Academy under professor Ellen Gallagher in 2022, invites visitors to explore a vibrant and intricate ecosystem. Loureiro's paintings depict creatures living in an eternal cycle, feeding on each other, and pollinating each other.
Upon entering the exhibition, visitors are greeted by a veritable garden at the tunnel entrance. As you venture deeper, you'll find a series of thought-provoking paintings, each offering a unique glimpse into Loureiro's artistic vision.
One of the standout pieces is a painting titled "Caterpillar and flower: 'Lipophilic Substance oozes from their Wound'", which depicts a flower visited by a voracious black caterpillar, with a fat-soluble substance oozing from its wound. Another noteworthy artwork is "A Molecule of Scent in a Cubic Meter of Air", a painting that invites you to imagine the unseen world of molecules in the air.
"Crafted from the Dreams of Imaginal Cells" and "In Flower Dust Engraved Belonging" are two other paintings that captivate with their intricate details and the way they depict subjects in a neutral, almost scientific manner, much like a biologist might observe them.
"Lacrimarium", another painting in the exhibition, shows a wrapped, rain-drop-kissed leaf, while "Seven Points of Fullness" reveals tiny beetles under a sunflower. The use of artificial sunlight in the exhibition's hallway further enhances the overall ambience.
Admission to the exhibition is 4 euros, but free admission is offered on the second Sunday of each month. Guided tours are available on Sundays at 3 pm and 4 pm for those who wish to delve deeper into Loureiro's work.
