Tigers relinquish 21 points in the second half, leading to defeat against Rockridge
In a nail-biting contest at Bryant Field in Princeton, the Rockridge Rockets emerged victorious against the Princeton Tigers, securing a 36-29 win in their second match of the season.
The Rockets started the game strong, scoring the first points with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Cullen Schwigen to Aaron Wheatley. Princeton retaliated with a 65-yard touchdown run from Casey Etheridge, taking a 7-6 lead late in the first quarter.
The Rockets responded before halftime, tying the game at 15-15 after a touchdown pass from Schwigen to Liam Steele. Princeton, however, took a 22-15 lead into the break with a 42-yard touchdown run from Gavin Latham.
In the second half, the Tigers failed to score, while the Rockets capitalised on their opportunities. Cullen Schwigen accounted for all five Rockridge scores, scoring three touchdowns (one passing and two rushing) and setting up the remaining two with his runs. The Rockets' unanswered run of 21 points put them in the lead, eventually winning the game.
Despite strong performances from Casey Etheridge (150+ rush yards and 2 touchdowns) and Gavin Latham (150 rush yards and 1 touchdown), the Tigers could not find a way past the Rockets' defence in the second half. Caleb Caldwell and Gavin Latham did not score in the game for the Princeton Tigers.
The Princeton Tigers now find themselves at 0-2 at the start of the season, their first 0-2 start since they started 0-3 in 2017. The Rockridge Rockets, on the other hand, have improved to 2-0 with the win.
The exact timing and team responsible for the final score, as well as the score at some point during the game when it was 29-29, are not provided. Nonetheless, the Rockridge Rockets' comeback victory against the Princeton Tigers will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the highlights of the season.
