TikTok's resurgence in India remains prohibited, according to reports, as the government continues to maintain the app ban.
In the digital world, Ashish Singh is making waves on multiple fronts. The Chief Copy Editor at an unspecified platform is not only planning his next virtual race but also keeping a keen eye on the latest in tech.
Meanwhile, the fate of another popular social media platform, TikTok, remains uncertain in India. The ban, imposed in June 2020 following border clashes in Ladakh's Galwan Valley, was a response to concerns about data security and potential threats to the country's "sovereignty and integrity."
The U.S. federal court, specifically a judge, blocked the Trump administration's attempt to ban TikTok in the States, but the ban remains in effect in India. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had expressed concern about the compilation of data, its mining, and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defense of India.
TikTok, with over 120 million users in India at the time of the ban, stated its intention to collaborate with authorities to ensure user security. However, no directive has been issued to unblock the app in India. Some users have managed to access TikTok's website on a desktop browser, sparking speculation of a possible India comeback.
In the past, Ashish Singh has worked with Times Internet and Jagran English. His tech-focused endeavours began in 2020, when he started policing commas and now, he's delving deeper into the world of tech, planning a road trip to test the latest in-car tech.
The initial ban included WeChat, Weibo, Clash of Kings, CamScanner, and 58 other Chinese apps. As for TikTok, only time will tell if it will make a return to the Indian market. For now, Ashish Singh continues his virtual racing and tech-focused ventures, likely fuelled by copious amounts of coffee.
