On the tragic day of August 31, 1997, the world lost a beloved figure—Princess Diana. She was accompanied by her partner Dodi Al Fayed, bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, and chauffeur Henri Paul in the fatal car accident that occurred in Paris.

Princess Diana, a UK Royal, was known for her role as a mother, being spontaneous, affectionate, cheerful, and fun around her sons, Princes William and Harry. Her compassionate nature extended beyond her family, as she became the first Royal to visit and hug an AIDS victim at the height of the illness, a worldwide concern.

Diana's life and work had a profound impact on many. In 1995, an interview with journalist Martin Bashir was viewed by 23 million people in which she spoke openly about her marriage to the prince and her desires for it to work. This candid conversation offered a glimpse into her personal life, further endearing her to the public.

The accident in Paris led to many conspiracies, but investigations found that the driver, Henri Paul, was drunk and declared the sole culprit of Princess Diana's death. Trevor Rees-Jones, her bodyguard, was the only survivor, but he was seriously injured.

The tragedy exacerbated an existing crisis within the Royal family, stemming from her divorce from then Prince and now King Charles. The death of Princess Diana had global repercussions, with millions mourning her death and honoring her compassion for others and her tireless charitable work.

Thirty-six oak trees were planted on the island, one for each year of Diana's life, in her final resting place—the island of Althorp, an estate owned by the Spencer family. Every August 29, hundreds of people visit La Place de l'Alma in Paris to lay flowers in commemoration of Diana. In the UK, Britons honor Diana by depositing flowers at Kensington Palace in London, where she resided.

The funeral of Princess Diana was televised and viewed by over 2.5 billion people worldwide. Her mausoleum bears a marmol placard that reads, "Nothing brings me more happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in society. It is a goal and essential part of my life - a kind of destiny."

Dodi Al Fayed, Princess Diana's partner who died with her in the fatal car accident in Paris, was known as Dodi Fayed. His full name was Emad El-Din Mohamed Abdel Mena'em Fayed.

To this day, the legacy of Princess Diana continues to inspire, with her spirit living on in the hearts of millions around the world.
