Top Notch Players to Skip The Tour Championship Event
The race for the 2025 FedEx Cup is heating up as we approach the Tour Championship, with several notable players vying for the coveted $10m prize.
Currently, Michael Kim finds himself in 31st place on the FedEx Cup standings, a strong position that could potentially secure him a spot at East Lake. Meanwhile, Daniel Berger is in 45th place, hoping for a late surge to make it to the final tournament.
Unfortunately, some prominent players will not be participating in the 2025 Tour Championship due to their rankings. Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele, who have consistently qualified for the event in previous years, have failed to advance past the FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship respectively. This marks the first time Schauffele will miss the Tour Championship in his career.
Ryan Fox, who has had a remarkable season with two wins on the PGA Tour, will not be playing at East Lake. Despite his impressive performances, he is not among the top 30 players competing.
Matt Fitzpatrick, despite a strong finish to the season with five top-10s in his final nine events, did not qualify for the Tour Championship. He is not yet qualified for the Ryder Cup team and may head back to Europe to try and impress Luke Donald.
Jason Day ended the 2025 season in 41st position on the FedEx Cup standings, missing the Tour Championship for the second consecutive year due to his 41st-place finish. His season was marked by four top-10s in 16 starts on the PGA Tour.
Rickie Fowler's exclusion from the Tour Championship means he is also unlikely to be part of Ryder Cup Team USA. Despite a T6 finish at the FedEx St Jude Championship and a T7 finish at the BMW Championship, Fowler's 41st-place finish in the FedEx Cup was not enough to secure a spot at East Lake.
Xander Schauffele's 42nd-place finish in the FedEx Cup means he will likely next play at the Procore Championship, which is set to be a tune-up for Keegan Bradley's Team USA.
Among the top 30 players competing at the Tour Championship are Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Aberg, and Justin Thomas. The event will have no starting strokes, making every round crucial for the players aiming to take home the FedEx Cup.
