Almeria Shines as a Prominent Camping Tourism Hotspot in Andalucia
In the summer tourism season of 2025, the province of Almeria has emerged as one of the most sought-after destinations for camping enthusiasts. With a total of 82,994 overnight stays recorded in July alone, Almeria has proven to be a dark horse candidate for the summer tourism season.
The towns and villages along the Costa de Almeria and the natural park surroundings, such as the Desert of Tabernas and Cabo de Gata, have stood out as strong tourism centers for hiking, diving, and camping. These areas, known for their outdoor activities and nature tourism appeal, have attracted a significant number of visitors, with more than 20,000 travellers staying at campsites in the province in July 2025.
Local towns and charming villages have proven to be tourism powerhouses for outdoor activities, including camping. The coast is more popular for camping than inland in Almeria, due to the milder weather. Sites with bungalows, mobile homes, and 'glamping' tents are more desirable for tourists than sites with regular tents, caravans, and motorhomes.
The occupancy rate of campsites in Almeria is between 85 and 95 percent, reflecting the high demand for camping holidays in the region. The Andalucian Camping Federation has highlighted this trend, stating that the coast is more popular for camping than inland in Almeria. Visitors and specifically foreign tourists have a fascination with local coastal areas for campsites.
Compared to June, the number of overnight stays at campsites in Almeria increased by 32%. This growth in demand is not only local but also shows a 0.3% year-on-year increase, making Almeria one of the most prominent camping tourism hotspots in Andalucia.
All types of campsites in Andalucia are highly sought after by tourists, and Almeria's campsites are no exception. With its stunning landscapes, outdoor activities, and the allure of the coast, it's no wonder that Almeria is becoming a favourite destination for camping enthusiasts.
