Toyota GR Supra discontinued in Australia, yet set to persist in Supercars racing

The iconic Toyota GR Supra will be leaving the market in Australia later this month, marking the end of an era for the fifth-generation sports coupe. Production is set to conclude in early 2026, approximately three years after its initial sale.

Since its launch in 2019, over 1400 units of the GR Supra have been sold locally. The vehicle, which uses a BMW platform and drivetrain, was developed with the latest BMW Z4. It is available in entry-level GT, mid-spec GTS, and top-spec Track Edition forms.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations, Sean Hanley, stated that the current GR Supra will leave a lasting legacy in the automotive industry. He added that the GR Supra has exceeded the expectations set by its predecessors.

The GR Supra has made 285kW of power and 500Nm of torque. However, details about the engine for the GR Supra in the 2026 Supercars race series are not provided. It will compete against the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang in the series. Interestingly, the GR Supra in the race series will use a V8 engine.

Toyota is yet to officially confirm the next generation Supra for production. Potential customers are advised to get their orders in as soon as possible to not miss out.

The GR Supra will continue in racing form in the 2026 Supercars race series. Toyota Australia will stop taking orders for the GR Supra later this month. The decision to discontinue the GR Supra was not accompanied by a statement from the CEO of Toyota Australia.

Despite the impending discontinuation, the GR Supra has had a sterling legacy before its launch in 2019. Its continuation in racing form is a testament to its enduring appeal and performance. The GR Supra's departure from the market will undoubtedly be felt by its loyal fans, but its legacy will live on in the annals of automotive history.
