Traffic Halt: 24-Tonne Steel-Laden Truck Halts Movement

On August 27, 2025, officers of the traffic division of the Autobahnpolizei Bielefeld stopped a heavily loaded tractor-trailer on the A2 rest area of Sürenheide. The tractor-trailer, driven by a 52-year-old man from Rhineland-Palatinate with German citizenship, was found to have significant technical defects.

During the inspection, it was discovered that the main frame of the tractor-trailer had a clear crack on the right side, at the height of the first axle. This defect posed a serious risk, as a complete break of the main frame could have occurred during the journey, potentially leading to a fall of the load onto the road. The consequence could have been a traffic accident with serious consequences.

As a result, the driver of the tractor-trailer faces an administrative offense report with a fine of 200 euros. The fall of the load could have been avoided due to the prompt action of the officers.

The tractor-trailer, loaded with 24,400 kg of construction steel, was from Mainz. The owner of the truck driven by the 52-year-old man with technical defects found on August 27, 2025, on the A2 in SĂźrenheide is not publicly disclosed.

Inspection and control of commercial goods traffic, particularly technical defects, is a main focus of police control. Each party receives one point in the traffic central register (VZR) for such incidents. The responsible registration office in Mainz was informed about the incident.

Due to the safety risks posed by the technical defects, the trailer was secured for safety reasons. The officers checked the tractor-trailer at the A2 rest area of Sürenheide. The main frame crack was located on the right side, at the height of the first axle.

The owner of the tractor-trailer faces an administrative offense report with a fine of 300 euros. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle checks and maintaining the safety of commercial goods traffic on the Autobahn.
