Traffic Incident: Auto Accident Causes Barrier Collision in A2 Lockdown Area

On Monday, 8th September 2025, a series of accidents occurred on the A2 highway between Bielefeld and Hannover. The incidents involved a Volkswagen ID 7 and a road closure truck, as well as several other vehicles.

The initial collision took place around 8:35 a.m., with the Volkswagen ID 7 and the closure truck colliding near the junction of Ostwestfalen-Lippe and Herford-Bad Salzuflen. Both vehicles were extensively damaged and had to be towed away. The Volkswagen ID 7 was a total loss.

The driver of the Volkswagen ID 7, a 30-year-old man from HΓΌrth, sustained minor injuries. Unfortunately, the truck driver, a 37-year-old man from Mannheim, was seriously injured.

Following the initial collision, a rear-end collision involving several vehicles occurred on the opposite Dortmund-bound lane. Two vehicles had to be towed away due to the extent of the damage. A witness reported driving over debris and possible damage to their vehicle.

The right lane of the A2 towards Hannover was reopened at around 09:35. However, the left and right lanes remained closed for accident investigation and vehicle recovery until 11:00. A rescue helicopter was called to the scene, and a doctor was flown to the site to attend to the injured parties.

The total damage to the five involved vehicles was estimated at around 25,000 euros. The truck and barrier also suffered damage of around 15,000 euros.

Press inquiries can be directed to the Police Headquarters Bielefeld. Their contact details, including the email address [email protected], can be found on their website at https://bielefeld.polizei.nrw/.

Initial findings suggest that a 50-year-old man from Frankfurt in a VW Golf had to brake due to traffic conditions, which caused the multi-vehicle rear-end collision on the opposite side of the highway.

We encourage all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
