In a grim turn of events, a train crash occurred along the Mediterranean coast of Egypt on a route between Alexandria and Marsa Matruh. The accident, which involved the derailment of two out of seven carriages, has left at least three people dead and over 100 injured, according to reports from the Egyptian Ministry of Health.

The cause of the recent train crash has been identified as a dip along the tracks. Photos from Egyptian news sites show the derailed carriages in a ditch, a stark reminder of the devastating impact of the accident.

This incident brings back memories of a severe train crash that occurred in Egypt in 2002, one of the worst in the country's history. Over 360 lives were lost in that tragic accident.

The Egyptian National Railways (ENR), the state railway authority overseeing the network and rail operations, has been involved in the reporting of the accident. The ENR has been operating the railway in Egypt, a network that spans approximately 10,000 kilometers, one of the oldest in Africa and the Middle East.

However, the condition of the railway network in Egypt has been neglected in the past, with long-overdue repairs being delayed. The condition of trains and tracks is often poor, contributing to accidents. Insufficient training of train personnel is also sometimes cited as a cause of these accidents.

In response to the accident, thirty ambulances were dispatched to treat and transport the injured. The Egyptian Ministry of Health has reported the incident as a "tragic accident" and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative during this difficult time.

As the investigation into the cause of the accident continues, it is hoped that steps will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers using Egypt's railway network.
