Train authorities in Bad Bentheim uncovered illegal substances during a train inspection in Osnabrück.
In an unexpected turn of events, customs officers at Bad Bentheim Station made a significant drug seizure on August 28, 2025. A 48-year-old man, travelling from Amsterdam to Berlin, was temporarily detained after 30 kilograms of ecstasy pills and 5 kilograms of ketamine were found in his luggage.
The event unfolded on an Amsterdam-bound train, where customs officers from the Osnabrück main customs office conducted a routine check. The total value of the seized drugs is approximately 440,000 euros.
Initially, the suspect claimed ignorance about the contents of the suitcases and didn't know the combination of the attached padlocks. However, after repeated requests, he complied and opened the suitcases. The further investigation was handed over to the customs investigation office in Essen at the Nordhorn location.
The deputy press spokesman for the Osnabrück main customs office, Leon-Marvin Freitag, confirmed the incident. The search took place on the afternoon of July 14.
The man's identity has not been disclosed, and the customs operation remains ongoing. This seizure underscores the vigilance and dedication of the customs officers in their efforts to combat the illegal drug trade.
