Train collision outside Mexico City leads to fatalities, claiming at least 8 lives
In a shocking incident that unfolded early Monday morning, a double-deck bus from the Herradura de Plata line was involved in a fatal collision with a freight train in the industrial area of warehouses and factories in Atlacomulco, approximately 80 miles northwest of Mexico City.
Footage circulating on social media platforms shows a gas-powered bus slowly crossing the train tracks when a fast-moving train suddenly appears and rams the bus at its midpoint. The train's momentum carried the bus down the tracks and out of frame in the video. Another video shows the bus at rest to the side of the tracks, with the roof of the bus gone and people moving on the top level.
The accident occurred in an area where there were no visible crossing gates or other signals, raising questions about the safety measures in place. According to reports, cars were crossing the tracks just prior to the crash, while traffic in the other direction stopped crossing the tracks at the time the bus drove onto them. A motorcycle crossed seconds before the crash.
The state of Mexico's civil defense agency is still working at the site of the accident, and at least eight people were confirmed dead and 45 were injured. The name of the specific bus line involved in the accident near Stockholm is not explicitly stated in the available search results.
The company operating the bus, Herradura de Plata, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The accident has left a devastating impact on the community, and the authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected by this tragic incident.
