Train derails at Riekofen railway station
A rail incident occurred near Riekofen on the railway line between Passau and Obertraubling at approximately 6:30 PM yesterday. The broken rail caused a train with 25 passengers to briefly derail.
The Waldmünchen Federal Police Inspectorate was notified of the rail break by the railway operations center, and Chief Inspector Franz Müller, the responsible official at the time, initiated an investigation into the incident. The investigation includes examining potential misconduct and the exact extent of the damage from the rail break remains unknown.
Initial findings suggest that material fatigue caused the rail break. The fire department was involved in the evacuation of the train, and one passenger was briefly treated by emergency services for psychological issues. Passengers were evacuated from the train and replacement transport was arranged, with passengers continuing their journey to Regensburg's main station with a replacement train.
A squad from the Regensburg Federal Police Station responded to the scene, and the train driver took the damaged train to the Regensburg workshop at around 8:00 PM. The rail line between Passau and Obertraubling remained closed for several hours while repairs were made, but no further updates on its reopening are provided in this paragraph.
It is worth noting that no injuries were reported as a result of the rail break and subsequent derailment. The Waldmünchen Federal Police Inspectorate has dispatched a construction crew to repair the damaged section, and the investigation is ongoing.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining the safety and integrity of our railway infrastructure. As the investigation continues, we will keep the public updated on any new developments regarding this rail incident.
