Training on drilling wells held in Zamboanga del Sur

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Zamboanga Peninsula recently conducted a three-day training on Well Drilling for Water Supply Construction in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. The training, held from Tuesday, August 26, to Thursday, August 28, aimed to strengthen the technical competence of participants by providing foundational knowledge and practical experience on safe and effective well drilling methods.

The training was facilitated by Socrates Gaerlan, a seasoned hydrogeologist and groundwater expert from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Cordillera Administrative Region (MGB-CAR). Gaerlan led all technical sessions during the training, sharing best practices and lessons learned from his years of experience in well drilling and water resource development.

Twenty technical personnel participated in the training, including representatives from selected water districts, DENR, and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB). The participants engaged in practical drilling exercises under expert supervision, gaining hands-on experience in well drilling techniques.

The training emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing water access challenges. It was not solely focused on the participants from the Water Resources Utilization Section (WRUS) of DENR and the MGB-Zamboanga Peninsula, but also included representatives from various organisations.

The training served as a capacity building event for technical personnel, providing opportunities for participants to learn from a groundwater expert's experience and enhance their skills in well drilling for water supply construction. Despite not including practical drilling exercises under expert supervision, as initially reported, the training still offered a valuable learning experience for all attendees.
