Trains held up due to grazing cattle on a railway track in BPOL-FL area

In an unusual turn of events, a train on the Hamburg to Westerland railway line was halted near Elmshorn and Glückstadt on Sunday morning at approximately 9:30 AM. The cause? A herd of cows that had made their way onto the tracks.

The driver of the Nordbahn train, upon spotting the three cows, promptly initiated an emergency brake to avoid a collision. Thankfully, no collision occurred, and the approximately 50 passengers on the train remained uninjured during the braking.

Upon learning of the situation, a Federal Police patrol from both the Glückstadt police station and the nearby Flensburg station responded to the incident. The animal owner, who had driven the animals into a pen before the Federal Police arrived, had also repaired the fence that was knocked down.

A criminal investigation has been initiated against a 60-year-old German for endangering rail traffic. However, the search results do not provide information about this individual facing criminal charges in Flensburg.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of animal fencing and the potential dangers that stray animals can pose to railway operations. The Federal Police Inspectorate Flensburg's website can be found at http://www.bundespolizei.de for more information on their work and services.
