Renovated Georgian Kitchen Shines with Brass Sink and Neutral Palette

In the heart of a historic Georgian property, a kitchen transformation has taken place, led by Jack Simpson, the founder and creative director of Nomad Developments. The project involved a full-scale interior rebuild to fix the flow and reintroduce lost period features, making way for a modern yet timeless space.

Before the renovation, the house had two tiny kitchens that were not fit for purpose. To address this, walls and doors were removed to create a more open-plan layout, featuring tall ceilings, banquette seating, and direct access to the courtyard garden. The kitchen, designed in a neutral palette, now serves as the central hub of the home.

The kitchen island, with its farmhouse-inspired design, stands as a central element, bridging the gap between island and table. The island features a dark wood tray for added warmth and interest, while the kitchen walls are painted with School House White by Farrow & Ball.

One of the most striking features of the renovated kitchen is the brass sink. Offering an unexpected metallic accent, the sink is intended to soften and age beautifully over time, providing layers and textural depth to the space. The brass sink provides a contrast to the marble countertops, adding a personality-filled contrast to the usual white and grey tones.

The kitchen remodel was a complex task due to working in an old property and the unfit layout of the home. However, precision planning was key to integrating modern comfort with conservation obligations. The remodel also included smaller spaces reimagined as essential storage, such as a kitchen larder.

The kitchen design includes a woven sideboard and collected ceramics, adding a touch of character to the space. The kitchen curtains, made of linen, add a softer detail against the steel window frames.

Despite the modern updates, the kitchen maintains a sense of history and character. The kitchen island, with its neutral palette and brass sink, is a testament to Jack Simpson's ability to blend the old with the new, creating a space that is both functional and beautiful.
