Transport Committee Finalizes Session with Key Decisions
In a public meeting held on September 2, 2025, the Mobility and Traffic Surfaces Committee of Bergisch Gladbach made significant decisions that will shape the city's future urban development.
The highlight of the meeting was the approval of the Altenberger-Dom-Straße redesign plan between Kempener Straße and Leverkusener Straße. This plan, aimed at improving mobility and traffic safety, was the result of extensive discussions and collaborative efforts.
The committee also decided on projects to strengthen cycling, pedestrian traffic, and public transportation, as well as prioritising the halestellen concept with the establishment of barrier-free access. These decisions will contribute to making Bergisch Gladbach a more sustainable and accessible city.
Numerous future-oriented and important projects in the areas of mobility, traffic safety, and sustainable urban development were made possible through the committee's work. These include the further specification and development of the design plan for Friesenstraße, based on planning variant 3, which emerged from citizen participation.
The implementation of the decided measures will continue in the responsible committees following the upcoming elections. The city administration expressed gratitude to all committee members for their constructive cooperation and engaged exchange.
The expansion of the S-Bahn and a possible Britanniahuette street crossing were also discussed during the meeting. The administration, along with IP GL, was tasked with further advancing the planning for these projects. However, the name of the IP GL member involved in the planning of the possible Britanniahütte street crossing remains undisclosed.
It's worth noting that the decisions made in the meeting will not affect the Altenberger-Dom-Straße redesign plan, as it has already been approved. The full meeting documents are available to interested citizens at Mandatsinfo Bergisch Gladbach.
The S-Bahn expansion and Britanniahuette street crossing planning, previously assigned to the administration and IP GL, remains ongoing. The discussions aimed at setting further decisive impulses for future urban development, and the committee's work in the current legislative period has now come to an end.
These decisions mark a significant step forward in the city's urban development, and the administration is responsible for providing the necessary budget and preparing the implementation of these projects. The city of Bergisch Gladbach is poised to become a more sustainable, accessible, and modern city, thanks to the committee's hard work and the administration's commitment to these projects.
