Fire Department of Herdecke Responds to Multiple Oil Spills

The Fire Department of Herdecke was kept busy over the weekend, responding to multiple oil spills in the city. The incidents occurred on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Weg, Dahlienweg, and Bruchstraße.

The first report came in at 10:48 AM on Saturday, with an oil spill on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Weg, corner of Im Lerchenfeld. The fire department quickly responded and treated the spill with a binding agent, which was collected by a sweeper.

Shortly after, at around noon, a small area on Dahlienweg was treated and collected. This required additional resources and a second team. The team returned to Dahlienweg later in the day due to the spill spreading again.

At 4:07 PM, the fire department was called back to Bruchstraße, where an oil spill had been reported earlier. Upon arrival, a significant contamination of the streets was found. The team worked to neutralize isolated fuel spots and applied binding agent, which was later collected.

The oil spill on Bruchstraße required multiple returns to the site due to the spill spreading again.

Investigations suggest that road construction work in Gerhart-Hauptmann-Weg and Bruchstraße, in connection with the fiber optic expansion the previous day, may have caused the contamination. Further investigations are ongoing.

The Fire Department worked with volunteer personnel from 10:48 AM on Saturday until 1:00 PM, and again in the afternoon.
