The Netherlands has experienced a disruption in its traffic enforcement systems following a software security vulnerability that occurred on July 17, 2025. The OM, the central authority responsible for monitoring and controlling these systems, disconnected all facilities from the internet as a precautionary measure.

During the OM disruption, drivers caught on camera during the disruption should expect a delayed delivery of notices. However, it's important to note that not all surveillance systems were affected. The newer Focusflitsers, which detect mobile phone or seatbelt violations, continued to operate.

Mobile phone cameras continue to function reliably, meaning violations of the mobile phone use while driving are still recorded and penalized during the OM disruption. Traditional police controls with mobile radar devices or laser pistols were also carried out unchanged. Tourists should take note that especially mobile phone cameras continue to function reliably.

The basic rules for drivers, including those from abroad, remain the same despite the OM disruption. The public prosecution service does not provide exact numbers to prevent drivers from identifying locations.

Several dozen speed cameras across the country are affected, according to news portal NOS. Especially affected are speed cameras that were shut down for maintenance and could not be reactivated after the hack. The exact number of affected facilities is not yet known.

The automobile club ANWB has stated that there is no guarantee which facilities are active or inactive. Authorities are gradually restarting systems in phases to exclude any security risks. It's not yet known when all facilities will be back online.

The loss of revenue from missing fines is not quantified by official sources, but observers expect a noticeable decrease. The state is temporarily losing income, as confirmed by WNL.

Despite the disruption, drivers are encouraged to adhere to the rules of the road to ensure safety for all. During the restart cycle, the systems that were continuously kept in operation include control rod positioning and neutron flux measurement systems in nuclear reactors to maintain and regulate the neutron flux and power level, as well as certain safety and redundancy systems such as the two-out-of-three computer systems in railway line control (LZB) to ensure reliability.
