Trial initiation for the individual accused of murdering a 19-year-old bystander in Baltimore's Federal Hill neighborhood

In the heart of Baltimore's Federal Hill neighbourhood, a tragic incident unfolded on October 27, 2024, claiming the life of 19-year-old Cameran Holt. The young woman was a bystander in a shootout that also left an unidentified man injured.

According to the police's account, the incident began with an argument between Daeshaun Clark and an unidentified man in a parking lot. The altercation escalated, leading to a shootout. Both parties are said to have fled the scene in their respective vehicles.

The suspects, Daeshaun Clark, Alexis Cancel-Soto, and Devontaye Richardson, were identified through surveillance footage and witness statements. Baltimore Police arrested Richardson and Clark on November 21, 2024, and Cancel-Soto was apprehended four days later.

The trial for one of the three men, Alexis Cancel-Soto, has commenced. The trial, expected to last for five days, is being closely followed by the victim's family and the community.

Cameran Holt's mother, Roxanne Holt, spoke to WJZ about the trial, expressing her family's struggle and the pain they are enduring. "Families should not be going through this," she said. Roxanne Spath, Cameran's stepmother, added, "It does not bring my daughter back, but I have comfort in knowing that they are not on the street."

The charging documents suggest that all three defendants fired their weapons during the incident. All three are charged with first-degree murder.

The incident has left a lasting impact on the community. Federal Hill resident Bob Murphy expressed his concern, stating, "It could happen to anybody."
