Trivia: Batsmen Leading in Men's T20I Runs in a Calendar Year

In the world of T20 International cricket, two Pakistani players have left an indelible mark on the record books. The wicketkeeper-batter, who has been a consistent force in the team, holds the record for the most runs scored in a T20I calendar year and the most runs in partnerships in the history of the format.

In 2021, this remarkable player amassed an impressive 1,326 runs at an average of 73.66 and a strike rate of 134.89, making them the highest run-getter in a single year. This phenomenal performance also earned them the title of the highest run-scorer in the T20I format.

In the same year, another Pakistani player scored 939 runs at an average of 37.56 and a strike rate of 127.58, placing them at No. 6 on the list of players with the most runs in a T20I year.

The wicketkeeper-batter's impressive 2021 performance wasn't a one-off event. In 2022, they scored 996 runs at 45.27 and 122.96, securing them the fourth position on the list of players with the most runs in a T20I year.

However, both these talented players are currently out of the T20I set-up due to question marks on their strike-rates.

Joining the Pakistani duo in the exclusive club of players who have scored 600 or more runs in a T20I year are some of the biggest names in the game. These include Virat Kohli (India), Babar Azam (Pakistan), and Martin Guptill (New Zealand).

Interestingly, two other players have also achieved the feat of scoring 1000 runs in a T20I year. One of these players hails from Austria, although the year of their achievement is not specified. Another player from India has also managed this remarkable feat, but the year of their achievement remains unknown as well.

As of September 7, 2025, a total of 57 players have scored 600 or more runs in a T20I year in men's cricket.
