Storm Nongfa, a tropical storm that has been causing concern in the region, is currently located at approximately 18.1 degrees North and 106.1 degrees East. As of 4am on August 31, the storm is predicted to be in central Laos.

According to the Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Authority, Storm Nongfa has intensified and is moving west-northwest at about 20 km/h. The storm is expected to reach the mainland provinces of Ha Tinh to Bac Quang Tri and gradually weaken to a tropical depression with wind intensity of level 7 and gusts up to level 9. This will affect the western area of the Northeast Sea and the sea area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang.

The waters off the coast from Nghe An to Quang Tri provinces have already experienced winds of Levels 6-7, gusting up to Level 9. The prediction was made by Director of the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Mai Van Kiem.

From August 30 evening through August 31, localities from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh are likely to record downpour, with rainfall of 100-180mm, even over 300mm in some places. Rough sea has been recorded in the north of the Gulf of Tonkin and off Thanh Hoa's coast.

Storm Nongfa is currently in the area between Ha Tinh and Quang Tri provinces. It is moving westwards at some 20-25km per hour. The system sustained maximum wind speeds of Levels 6-7 (39-61km per hour).

As the storm continues its westward movement, the northern midland and delta regions, along with Quang Tri, will see 40-100mm of rainfall, even more than 200mm in certain areas. Storm Nongfa is expected to ease further into a low-pressure area.

Storm Nongfa originally reached Level 9 gusts, but has since weakened into a tropical depression. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay vigilant and follow local authorities' instructions for safety.
