In the political landscape of 2024, a book titled "Original Sin" by journalists Jake Tapper (CNN) and Alex Thompson (Axios) has stirred up quite a storm. Published by Penguin Press, this 332-page tome offers a comprehensive, gripping, and shocking account of President Joe Biden's presidency.

The book delves into the Democratic Party's reaction to Biden's catastrophic performance in a presidential debate against Donald Trump in June 2024. It reveals that the debacle was a turning point, leading to an uprising of Democratic Party leaders and other heavyweights.

Measures to camouflage Biden's decline were reportedly taken as early as 2022. These included shortening his speeches, choreographing events, and reducing his access to certain people. However, the book also sheds light on the doubts many high-ranking Democrats had about Biden's ability to effectively serve a second four-year term by the end of his presidency.

Despite Biden's physical and cognitive decline, his close ones, including his wife Jill, were in denial about the extent of his decline. By early 2024, discussions took place about putting Biden in a wheelchair due to his physical deterioration.

The book is based on interviews with over 200 people to understand how the Democratic Party was caught off guard after Biden's catastrophic performance in the debate. It does not support the view that Biden was little more than an empty shell from the start of his presidency, but also does not provide reassurance that he was perfectly lucid and fully capable of exercising the presidency twenty-four seven until the end.

Jake Tapper, the lead anchor for CNN in Washington, and Alex Thompson, who reports from the White House for Axios, have painted a vivid picture of the inner workings of the Biden administration. Their book offers a compelling narrative that is sure to captivate readers interested in politics and the presidency.
