Trump escalates his criticism against Nikki Haley ahead of the New Hampshire primary.
Former President Donald Trump made a stop in Manchester, New Hampshire, two days before the state's primary, continuing his quest for a potential third consecutive Republican nomination. The rally, which lasted for 90 minutes, focused on familiar themes, including election grievances, policy disputes, and criticism of political opponents.
During his speech, Trump maintained a combative stance towards former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a potential competitor in the Republican primary. The former president reiterated his criticism of Haley, questioning her qualifications and accusing her of relying on funds from radical Democratic sources for her campaign. However, he did not list policy disagreements with Haley, specifically her proposal to raise the retirement age for younger individuals, during the current rally.
Trump also praised the strength of leadership shown by Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Despite his criticisms, Trump questioned the compatibility of his aggressive approach with Republican values.
In contrast, Trump had little to say about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during the rally. The former president did not mention that he recently underwent a cognitive test or claim to have aced it, as he did in the past.
A large screen at the event displayed slides criticizing Haley's alleged associations with "Democrats, Wall Street & Globalists," along with her stances on issues like Social Security. However, Trump did not discuss these issues during his speech.
Trump's rally continued to be dominated by discussions about the 2020 election results, his defence of the actions of the January 6, 2021, rioters, and his stance on presidential immunity from prosecution. He used Truman's use of the atomic bomb as an example to support his argument for immunity.
Trump also asserted that he has a lead in polls for the South Carolina primary and is planning a visit to the state. Haley, on the other hand, has publicly condemned Trump's personal and insulting attacks, affirming that they reflect his insecurity.
In the midst of the campaign, Trump emphasized the need for significant support to convey a message of unity. Despite the controversies, he continues to garner support from a significant portion of the Republican base.
