Trump Intensifies Demand for Keegan Bradley to Fulfill Role as U.S. Ryder Cup On-Field Captain
U.S. Golfer Keegan Bradley in Contention for Playing Captain Role in Ryder Cup
Keegan Bradley, the American golfer, is under consideration for a unique role in the upcoming Ryder Cup. The match, scheduled for September at Bethpage Black in New York, could see Bradley as the playing captain, a position not held by a U.S. golfer since Arnold Palmer in 1963.
Bradley has earned a spot in the 12-man squad for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, thanks to his impressive season on the PGA Tour. He has one win and nine Top 10 finishes in his 20 starts, with his latest Top 30 coming after his victory at the Travelers Championship in June.
The role of playing captain is highly contested, with President Donald Trump expressing his support for Bradley. Trump has called Bradley an "amazing guy" and stated his belief that Bradley would make an excellent choice for the position.
However, whether Bradley will use one of his captain's picks on himself remains a question. If he does, he could become the first playing U.S. Ryder Cup captain since Palmer.
Bradley is currently sitting fourth on the leaderboard heading into Sunday's final round of the Tour Championship, suggesting he could be rounding back into form just in time for the Ryder Cup.
Joining Bradley on the U.S. team are Scottie Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Harris English, Russell Henley, and Bryson DeChambeau. President Trump plans to attend Friday's action at Bethpage Black.
Keegan Bradley will make his captain's pick selections on Wednesday, and the golfing world will be watching to see if he chooses himself for the historic dual role.
