Pam Bondi, a former assistant state attorney in Hillsborough County, Florida, served as the Attorney General of Florida from 2011 to 2019, making history as the first woman and the first Republican to hold the position for two terms. During her tenure, she took on significant legal actions and high-profile cases, but her career has also been marked by controversy.

Before ascending to the top law enforcement position in Florida, Bondi built a long career as a prosecutor and law graduate. She spent 18 years as a public prosecutor in Hillsborough County before becoming attorney general.

One of the most contentious issues surrounding Bondi's tenure was her involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein case. Epstein, a billionaire financier, is at the center of the controversy. Critics have accused Bondi of remaining willfully silent on a controversial non-prosecution agreement Epstein and his co-conspirators had struck with her predecessor. The Justice Department released a memo stating that no incriminating "client list" was found in the Epstein case review.

Despite this controversy, Bondi could have intervened as victims launched lawsuits challenging the deal, which saw Epstein plead guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution but serve only months in prison. The Epstein case has become a political issue, with Democrats adopting it as such and criticism coming from both within Trump's base and among his opponents.

Bondi's relationship with Donald Trump began during the 2016 presidential primary when she initially supported former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. However, she switched to Trump after he became the nominee. This alliance led to Bondi joining the White House legal team, defending Trump during his first impeachment trial.

Trump has stood by Bondi, who has been instrumental in his reshaping of the Department of Justice. However, controversy continued to follow Bondi, with an ethics probe related to her soliciting contributions from Trump while her office was considering joining a lawsuit against Trump University. The probe was later dropped.

After leaving her post in Florida, Bondi joined the Ballard Lobbyist group, representing the interests of Amazon, General Motors, and Uber, among others. Bondi's career has also been marred by allegations of ties to lobbyists and legal firms after leaving the Attorney General’s office.

In addition to the Epstein case, Bondi led crusades against so-called "pill mills" and led some Republican pet causes during her tenure as attorney general. She also sought to establish herself as a champion against sex trafficking and child sex abuse during her time as Florida's top cop.
