Turkey dominates Portugal, securing a 95-54 victory and qualifying for the last 16 of EuroBasket 2025 without a single defeat.

In the ongoing Group A of the 2025 European Basketball Championship (FIBA EuroBasket 2025), Turkey and Serbia are leading the pack with three wins each.

Last week, Serbia claimed its third straight victory by edging host Latvia 84-80. Turkey, on the other hand, secured a convincing 95-54 victory over Portugal.

The Turkish team displayed a strong performance in their match against Portugal, leading 22-13 after the first quarter and 51-27 at halftime. Alperen Sengun, who has drawn attention with his performances throughout the group stage, scored 14 points in the first quarter alone. The bench also contributed significantly in the second quarter.

Omer Faruk Yurtseven scored under the basket in the second half, adding to Turkey's dominance. Sengun's impressive statistics include averaging 19.6 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists per game, a feat that has caught the attention of basketball enthusiasts.

If Sengun records double digits in points, rebounds, and assists in one of the remaining games, he will become only the fifth player in European Championship history to post a triple-double.

Meanwhile, Estonia earned its first win by beating Czechia 89-75. Unfortunately, Czechia remains winless in the tournament so far.

In an interesting turn of events, Alperen Sengun's Turkish counterpart, Adem Bona, has a special plan for Serbia's Nikola Jokic, although this fact is not directly related to the game against Portugal.

As the tournament progresses, Turkey will face Estonia in their fourth Group A match on Monday, Sept. 1. The top four teams in Group A will move on to the next round.

Portugal's head coach Mario Gomes was ejected with four minutes left due to two consecutive technical fouls in their match against Turkey.

The group stage of the 2025 European Basketball Championship is shaping up to be an exciting spectacle, with Turkey and Serbia leading the charge. Stay tuned for more updates as the tournament unfolds.
