In Turkey, daily protests have been ongoing for a week against the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The demonstrations have been met with a strong police presence, with water cannons and pepper spray used against the protesters. Over 1,400 individuals have been arrested during these protests, and many have been injured.

The focus of these protests, in part, is the imprisonment of Ekrem İmamoğlu, a prominent member of the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Turkey. İmamoglu is currently detained in Silivri prison, but this has not deterred the CHP from considering him as their presidential candidate in 2028. Despite the legal challenges and potential for extended detention, the CHP remains committed to him as a candidate.

İmamoglu's imprisonment stems from corruption charges, with the court believing he has abused his power for personal gain. However, İmamoglu denies these allegations.

The term "bribery" refers to the act of giving money to a politician or official in exchange for favorable actions. This act of corruption, as another term for bribery, is a common issue in many countries.

In some countries, the president holds significant political power as the head of state, making them the most powerful politician. In other countries, the head of government holds more power. In the USA and France, for instance, the president holds considerable power, while in Germany and elsewhere, the head of government wields more influence.

Regardless of the specific political structure, the act of bribery remains a pervasive issue, highlighting the importance of upholding integrity and accountability in politics. It is essential for the democratic process to remain transparent and fair for the benefit of all citizens.
