Two individuals taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a Congressional intern in June's end, a third still being pursued
In a developing story, two 17-year-olds have been arrested and charged as adults for a shooting that occurred near the D.C. Convention Center on June 30. The shooting involved three individuals, one of whom was identified as Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a 21-year-old Massachusetts college student and congressional intern for Rep. Ron Estis.
The tragic incident is believed to have stemmed from an ongoing neighbourhood crew dispute. However, it is important to note that Tarpinian-Jachym was not the intended target of the shooting.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro expressed her condolences for Tarpinian-Jachym, stating that he did not deserve to be gunned down. Pirro also accused the city council of not doing enough to prosecute violent offenses carried out by teens.
Both teens had previously been tried in family court for other violent crimes. Pirro has sought further criminal penalties against juveniles as young as 14 since taking office, and the two suspects have been charged with first-degree murder while armed.
A third suspect is still being sought in connection with the shooting. The search results do not provide any information about the identities of this individual or the two suspects in Maryland, where the stolen vehicle used by the teens in the attack was found after the incident. It is reported that the vehicle was stolen in Maryland days prior to the incident.
This story is still unfolding, and 7News will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Eric Tarpinian-Jachym during this difficult time.
