In the whirlwind of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, LiveU's technology played a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, low-latency live feeds to broadcasters worldwide.
Approximately 6,500 recordings of live feeds and over 4,000 hours of content were recorded during the election day period, a significant increase from the 2020 election. This surge in content was made possible by the deployment of over 4,000 LiveU encoders, the largest-ever fleet for a single event.
The LiveU Matrix platform was instrumental in this expansion, enabling broadcasters to exchange live feeds and create collaborative news pools. This extended content coverage from battleground states to campaign headquarters, providing a comprehensive view of the election.
LiveU's Mobile Data service was also in use, combined with LAN access at key campaign sites and utilizing the LiveU Reliable Transport (LRT) protocol. This ensured smooth and reliable transmission of live feeds, even in challenging conditions.
For the first time in a major event, LiveU Ingest was instrumental in the production process. Broadcasters deployed the solution for automatic recording and story metadata tagging, integrated with their MAM systems. This streamlined the production process, allowing for quicker delivery of content to viewers.
During the Republican and Democratic conventions, LiveU offered customers the option of adding LiveU Private Connectivity, providing uncontested connectivity via a dedicated Private 5G connection. This service will also be available on Inauguration Day.
Cross-station content visibility allowed participating stations to access each other's content, further expanding the coverage and providing a more comprehensive view of the election.
LiveU's flagship LU800 units were used nationwide in diverse scenarios for live feeds to control rooms across multiple continents. News crews used LiveU packs around the country to cover every key moment, including supporters' reactions to victory and concession speeches.
Major US networks such as CNN, Fox News, and NBC used LiveU encoders for live broadcasts during the 2024 US presidential campaign. A dedicated Election Day task force was in place, with LiveU's 24/7 phone and email support bolstered by engineers deployed on-site at candidate headquarters, ready to support and provide additional equipment as needed.
LiveU Senior Vice President of Sales, Brian Tully, stated that the election created an unprecedented amount of action, excitement, and interest worldwide, with LiveU's technology at the heart of the coverage. This number was nearly double the number of LiveU encoders deployed for the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
