U.S. Open gets a visit from Trump, advocating for stricter security measures
The US Open, one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, is currently underway at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. This year, the tournament has seen an increase in security measures, due in part to the visit of US President Donald Trump.
The Secret Service, a law enforcement agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has been deployed around the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to ensure the safety of all visitors and media representatives. This heightened security is particularly noticeable on the final day of the tournament.
Visitors and media personnel are subject to much stricter controls, with bags being inspected more thoroughly and carefully than before. An additional check has also been implemented before entering the Arthur Ashe Stadium, which can accommodate nearly 24,000 spectators.
The men's final, scheduled for the evening, is between Italian Jannik Sinner and Spanish Carlos Alcaraz. The match has been moved back by half an hour to give spectators time to take their seats, following the increased security measures.
It's worth noting that the US Open and the Club World Cup final in football, a high-profile sporting event that Donald Trump attended since his election victory last November, are not related. The Club World Cup final took place near New York, but it is a football event, unlike the US Open.
Despite these additional security measures, the US Open continues to attract a large number of spectators, eager to witness the exciting tennis matches unfolding on the courts. The tournament promises to be a thrilling end to the summer sports season.
