Ukraine experienced a barrage of 145 drones and missiles, launched by Russia.
In a series of attacks overnight on March 19, Ukraine faced an assault from drones, with preliminary data indicating no casualties from the drone crashes in the Sumy Oblast hospitals. The Ukrainian Air Force (Ukrainian military authorities in Kyiv) reported that 145 drones participated in the attack, with approximately half shot down over various regions.
The Buchanskyi region of Kyiv Oblast was one of the areas affected, where a 60-year-old local resident was injured during a nighttime attack. Nine private homes were damaged and partially destroyed in the Buchanskyi region. The Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia used "Iskander" and S-300 missile systems in the attack.
In the city of Slavyansk in the Donetsk region, power outages were caused by an attack on energy facilities less than an hour after a conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Joe Biden. However, according to reports, Putin agreed to refrain from striking Ukraine's energy infrastructure for 30 days during the conversation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he considers it appropriate to speak with Biden and learn the details of the agreement from him. Speaking on Wednesday, Zelensky noted that Russia cannot be trusted, as Russian military forces attacked, including energy facilities, even after the telephone conversation between Putin and Biden.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported on the operation of the air defense system around midnight. Another drone crashed onto the roof of the Krasnopolskaya hospital in the Sumy Oblast overnight, adding to the series of attacks. The previous evening, another drone crashed onto a hospital in the Sumy Oblast.
It is important to note that during wartime, it is impossible to independently verify such information. The Russian Ministry of Defense did not confirm this attack, and they stated that Russian forces shot down seven of their own drones, allegedly heading to attack energy facilities in the Nikolaev region.
The presidents of the United States and Russia had a telephone conversation dedicated to the war in Ukraine. Zelensky noted that he is recording his evening video address during an air alert when Ukraine is being attacked by Russian drones. Despite the ongoing attacks, Zelensky stated that Ukraine and Russia, with the mediation of the United States, can reach an agreement not to strike at energy infrastructure, but Ukraine will respond if attacked.
