UN Finds 'Reasonable Grounds' for Genocide in Gaza as Crisis Deepens

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with Palestinians living in refugee camps feeling a deep sense of anger and hopelessness. The United Nations has found 'reasonable grounds' for genocide, with at least 66,000 Palestinians killed in the last two years, including around 50,000 children. The anniversary of Israel's ongoing actions in Gaza was marked on October 7.

The scale of the crisis is staggering. In Gaza, home to the largest cohort of child amputees in modern history, 10 children lose one or both legs every day due to Israel's bombardment. This equates to 30 out of every 1,000 people living in Gaza being killed. The international community has taken note. An independent commission led by the UN Human Rights Council concluded that Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza. The commission, published in September 2025, was led by Australian international law expert Christopher Sidoti and found 'reasonable grounds' for Israel's state, its senior representatives, and military commanders to be responsible for crimes under genocide norms following Hamas's terror attack on October 7, 2023.

The plight of Palestinians in refugee camps is not limited to Gaza. In Lebanon, four generations have lived in refugee camps since 1948, a stark reminder of the long-standing conflict.

The situation in Gaza and for Palestinians in refugee camps remains critical. The international community must continue to press for an end to the violence and a just resolution to the conflict. The lives and futures of countless Palestinians hang in the balance.
