In the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, a significant section of the frontline is currently contested, with Dobropillja, a city in the Donetsk region, located in the Pokrovsk district, finding itself at the centre of the struggle.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently arrived in the People's Republic of China for a multi-day visit, landing in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin. The Kremlin leader will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which is the largest since its founding in 2001. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to meet with President Putin in China, after consulting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about peace efforts in the Ukraine conflict.

The Ukrainian military has reportedly encircled Russian forces near Dobropillja in the Donetsk region, according to military spokesman Viktor Trehubov. Meanwhile, Russian troops are reported to have targeted and allegedly executed an unarmed civilian in the Pokrovsk district of the Donetsk region, according to the Ukrainian Azov Regiment. Civilian targets in Ukraine were hit again, most significantly in the city of Saporischschja, resulting in one death and 30 injuries.

The United States, under Donald Trump's government, considered deploying private US military companies to Ukraine as part of a peace plan to protect American interests and deter Russia. However, Trump rejects the deployment of his own ground troops in Ukraine, but is said to have proposed that private US military companies could be used to protect companies in which US investors are involved. The British "Telegraph" reports that the USA could support a European engagement, potentially using private US military firms to build Ukrainian defense positions and secure military bases.

The European Union is exploring how frozen Russian assets could potentially be used to finance Ukraine's defense and reconstruction after the war. In addition, the Ukrainian air defense counted 537 drones and 45 missiles overnight Saturday, marking one of the most intense Russian air strikes since the start of the large-scale invasion in February 2022.

The Lithuanian military is installing obstacles, known as "Dragon's Teeth", to strengthen security at border control points with Russia and Belarus. High-ranking Trump officials are now blaming Europe for the lack of progress, accusing European countries of encouraging Kyiv to wait for a "better deal" with Russia. Donald Trump is not making progress in his efforts to end the Russian war against Ukraine, partly due to his closest advisors allegedly underestimating the situation.

Russian Chief of Staff, Valery Gerasimov, announced a continuation of extensive air strikes against Ukraine, targeting military facilities and the defense industry. Gerasimov also announced that the General Staff will determine the targets of Russian troops for the fall over the weekend.

Amidst these developments, Ukrainian forces have reportedly achieved successes at the front, preventing Russian troops from capturing targets in the Donetsk region and stopping further advances into the Dnipropetrovsk region. These successes offer a glimmer of hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
