In a significant operation dubbed Operation Bad Odds, the Polk County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) and the Florida Gaming Control Commission teamed up to crack down on illegal gambling activities in Polk County, Florida.

The operation, which resulted in 28 arrests, was prompted by a tip about illegal machines at A-1 Discount Beverage store in Auburndale. Undercover detectives, who had won money playing the illegal gambling machines prior to the raids on 12 stores, found the machines hidden in the back rooms of the A-1 Discount Beverage store.

A total of $100,971, firearms, and 48 gambling machines were seized during the sting. Among those arrested, five men were found to be in the US illegally.

Sheriff Grady Judd, speaking about the operation, stated that illegal gambling machines are not programmed for fair play. He warned potential lawbreakers about playing illegal games, advising that it's a safe bet they will go to jail.

Sheriff Judd also warned that stores hosting illegal gambling are at a higher risk of being robbed. He used the arrests to emphasise this point, stating that store clerks handed over the winnings concealed in bankers' bags during the raids.

The exact details regarding who initiated Operation Bad Odds in Florida remain unknown. However, the operation has sent a clear message that such activities will not be tolerated in Polk County. Sheriff Judd's warnings serve as a reminder for all Floridians involved in illegal gambling activities to reconsider their actions.
