In a closely contested match, RB Leipzig secured their first win of the new Bundesliga season at home against 1. FC Heidenheim with a score of 2-0.

Trainer Ole Werner made four changes to the RB Leipzig team for the game, with Xavi Simons, who had recently joined Tottenham Hotspur, not among the changes. The match was attended by several football luminaries from the Red Bull corporation, including Jürgen Klopp, Zsolt Löw, and Mario Gómez.

The game was entertaining, with both teams having good chances. Heidenheim, who had lost their first game of the season 1-3 to VfL Wolfsburg before playing against RB Leipzig, showed a sense of urgency due to their risky play and tendency to retreat.

Christoph Baumgartner scored the first goal of the new Bundesliga season for Leipzig in the 48th minute, putting the ball into the net with the outside of his foot in a beautiful display of skill. Rómulo secured the final score for Leipzig in the 78th minute, a goal that Ramaj was powerless to stop.

Both goalkeepers made further saves throughout the game. Peter Gulacsi made two great saves against Mathias Honsak (8.) and (13.) for Leipzig, while Heidenheim's keeper quickly blocked a deflected shot from David Raum (29.) and a shot from Rómulo (33.).

Despite Leipzig aiming to return to the Champions League, there was no clear difference between them and Heidenheim, who only avoided relegation in the playoffs last season. Despite having more of the game and more chances, Leipzig couldn't quickly secure the victory or assert their dominance.

43,495 spectators attended the home debut of RB Leipzig, with most of the stands full but not sold out. Fans of RB Leipzig showed their support with a large 'Restart' banner during the game.

Unfortunately, the second goal for RB Leipzig in the new Bundesliga season has not been recorded. In the opening match against Bayern Munich, Bayern scored all goals, including by Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, and Harry Kane, with Leipzig failing to score any goals. However, this victory against Heidenheim is a positive start for Leipzig in their quest to regain their place among Europe's elite.
