Worten Mock Fest: A Comedy Extravaganza in Lisbon
The vibrant city of Lisbon played host to the Worten Mock Fest, an international comedy festival that took place from August 28 to 30, 2022. Over 10,000 people flocked to Cinema São Jorge to witness a laugh-filled weekend, with a diverse lineup of stand-up performances and engaging discussions.
The festival featured both national and international comedians, with the likes of Rafinha Bastos, Jim Jefferies, and Daniel Sloss leading the international side of the stand-up performances. On the national front, Luís Franco-Bastos, Diogo Batagás, and Luana do Bem were the headliners for the Portuguese stand-up sessions.
In addition to stand-up comedy, the Worten Mock Fest also offered a platform for serious discussions about comedy. The Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation was instrumental in promoting these discussions, ensuring that the festival was not just about jokes but also about the art and culture of comedy.
One of the highlights of the festival was Gustavo Carvalho's show, Humor À Primeira Vista. The podcast and streaming stage show featured comedy, art, and culture discussions every Tuesday. During the Worten Mock Fest, episodes of Humor À Primeira Vista were broadcast live on the Streaming Stage.
Carvalho, a podcast host and interviewer, focuses on comedy as a passion and profession. He interviews comedians and cultural figures, sometimes expanding into other cultural topics like theater, music, digital media, television, and cinema. At the Worten Mock Fest, Carvalho discussed moments from the festival, analyzed its first edition, and projected its challenges for growth.
Humor À Primeira Vista does not focus solely on comedy but also opens discussions about other cultural themes. During the festival, it occasionally delved into topics such as theater, music, digital media, television, and cinema.
The festival was not just a one-time event. The Worten Mock Fest will return in 2026 with dates and format to be announced. In the meantime, fans of comedy can catch up on past episodes of Humor À Primeira Vista online, with new episodes available every Tuesday.
The Worten Mock Fest also saw the debut of other shows, including the podcast "Assim Vamos Ter de Falar de Outra Maneira" and the program "Irritações." These shows added to the diverse and entertaining lineup of the festival, ensuring that there was something for everyone.
Guilherme Geirinhas also presented a Cinema Cycle at the Worten Mock Fest, adding a unique cinematic touch to the festival.
The Worten Mock Fest was a resounding success, bringing together comedy enthusiasts, performers, and fans alike for a weekend of laughter and insightful discussions. As the festival gears up for its return in 2026, it's clear that the future of comedy in Lisbon is bright and full of promise.
