Supermarket Roof Collapse in Lauchringen: Four Injured

In a sudden and unexpected incident, a portion of the roof at a Rewe supermarket in Lauchringen, a town near the city of Waldshut-Tiengen on the Swiss border, has collapsed. The incident occurred on Saturday, leaving four people injured, with two of them sustaining serious injuries.

According to Mike KĂśnig, deputy commander of the Lauchringen fire department, the collapse happened within the blink of an eye, taking just three seconds. At the time of the incident, there were 26 people in the store.

Upon the incident, a swift response was initiated. Firefighters, rescue services, police, and the Technical Relief Agency (THW) were deployed to the scene. Rescue teams are using thermal imaging cameras to search for any injured individuals who may be trapped.

Interestingly, the renovation of the Rewe supermarket in southern Baden-WĂźrttemberg, which took place in August, involved only the interior fittings. The roof and building structure were not affected, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the Rewe Group. Thus, no specific roof work was carried out during the renovation.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, it appears that no one had to be transported by a rescue helicopter to a clinic for treatment. The exact identities of the victims are not yet known.

Approximately 50 firefighters were involved in the rescue efforts until Saturday evening. The authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of the community and to provide aid to those affected by the incident.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures in construction and renovation projects, particularly those involving structures open to the public. Investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing.
